Detached four-bay single-storey direct entry thatched house with dormer attic, extant 1838, with single-bay single-storey flat-roofed projecting porch. Renovated. For sale, 2012. Pitched roof with part chicken wire-covered replacement reed or rye straw thatch, exposed hazel lattice stretchers to raised ridge having exposed scallops, cement rendered, ruled and lined dwarf chimney stack having stepped capping supporting terracotta pots, and concrete coping to gables on "Cavetto"-detailed kneelers. Replacement rendered battered walls with rendered quoins to corners supporting rendered band to eaves. Square-headed window openings with concrete sills, and concealed dressings framing replacement uPVC casement windows. Square-headed opposing door openings with concealed dressings framing replacement timber doors. Interior including kitchen retaining hearth with rusticated surround, timber boarded opposing doors, and timber boarded ceiling. Set in landscaped grounds perpendicular to road with rendered piers to perimeter having capping supporting looped flat iron gate.
A house identified as an integral component of the vernacular heritage of south County Mayo by such attributes as the alignment perpendicular to the road; the rectilinear direct entry plan form; the construction in unrefined local fieldstone displaying a feint battered silhouette; and the high pitched roof showing a replenished thatch finish.
