Freestanding single-span railway foot bridge, erected c.1860 by the Midland Great Western Railway as part of the Longford to Sligo line. Closed string cast-iron staircase supported by cast-iron columns resting on concrete plinth. Concrete steps to lower part of stairs. Metal panels bolted beneath handrail. Cast-iron foliate panels and brackets to parapet.
Still in use today, this well-preserved foot bridge forms part of the group Carrick-on-Shannon railway architecture. Its visually appealing design is embellished with decorative cast-iron detailing.
