Freestanding cylindrical cast-iron post box, erected c.1915, with royal insignia of King George V and crown and "POST OFFICE" in relief. Rounded cap with moulded neck and base and with decorative cornice.
This cast-iron post box is an important feature of the social and urban fabric of the town. Though the design is simple the high-relief casting of the crown is well executed. It also a significant testimony to the history of the state as post boxes in Ireland dating from the reign of King George V (1910 to 1936) were no longer erected after the formation of the Irish Free State in 1921.
