Freestanding cast-iron water pump, erected c.1860, now disused. Comprising cylindrical shaft with raised horizontal banding, fluted upper section with spout and fluted ogee-domed cap with finial. The spout has foliate decoration where it meets the neck. Cow tail style handle. Stone trough to front. Pump situated at a prominent corner within Ballyforan.
This water pump is located at a prominent position in Ballyforan on the corner of the Fair Green. It was once an integral feature within the locality, being used as a communal water source. This functional object expresses elements of design such as its curved handle, banded shaft, fluted cap and finial. These features underline it as an important and aesthetically pleasing piece of street furniture.
