Detached four-bay single-storey vernacular house, built c.1860, with flat-roofed porch and rear extension, c.1960. Pitched thatched roof with rebuilt brick chimneystacks. Pebbledashed and roughcast-rendered walls. Timber sash windows with painted sills. Modern timber door to porch with sidelights, c.1980. Single-pitched corrugated-iron roof to rear rendered extension, which is accessed from house by rendered passage. Outbuildings to east and west with cast-iron roofs. Rubble wall to front site with wrought-iron pedestrian gate.
Though this vernacular house has been upgraded and maintained throughout the years, restoration works have been carried out as sensitively as possible. Many such properties are often altered greatly, loosing their traditional character. This example, located off the main Ballinasloe to Athlone Road, retains its authenticity. Notable features include the single-pane timber sash windows, thatched roof, pedestrian gate and outbuildings.
