Stone gate screen, built c. 1840. Central gateway with flanking side gates. Ashlar limestone walling, projecting plinth, octagonal gate piers with moulded cornice caps, angular copings to flanking walls. Square-headed openings to side gates, hood mouldings, chamfered reveals, painted timber flush doors. Decorative wrought-iron double gates with stiles housed into piers. Street fronted giving to gravelled driveway, two-storey property to south, rubble stone boundary wall to north.
This fine, handsomely proportioned, gate screen provides a fitting entrance to Avena House. The quality of craftsmanship is of artistic significance. It is a prominent landmark in the streetscape.
