Man-made concrete and rubble stone weir with associated sluice, built c. 1880. Originally a salmon weir, today it is used in conjunction with adjacent hydro-electricity generating plant to west. Spanning Ballysadare River to north of road bridge. Concrete paved paths to both sides of river.
This nineteenth century weir is an interesting reminder of the industrial heritage of Ballysadare and forms part of an intersting group of industrial related structures along this stretch of the River Ballysadare. The weir is of particular interest for the contribution it makes to electricity generation in the area.
