Detached water tower, built c. 1890, now disused. Painted steel water tank c. 1940 with rounded corners, steel inspection ladder on south side, insitu stepped concrete base. Coursed squared-and-snecked rock-faced ashlar walling to base. Round-headed door opening to south elevation, rock-faced ashlar voussoirs with tooled margins to intrados, painted vertically-sheeted timber door c. 1980. Fronting platform to east, station, waiting room and bridge to south.
A good example of a traditional railway water tower, an essential feature of any nineteenth century railway station. Fine masonry walls add to the architectural quality.
