Appraisal

A late nineteenth-century letter box of simple design, with insignia and crown that are reminders of the Victorian period in Ireland. The simple raised lettering and crown motif of which adds artistic interest to its functional form. Cast-iron post boxes are becoming increasing rare throughout Ireland, often being replaced with mass-produced plastic boxes. It is set in the gable of an end of terrace house at the Erne Bridge facing south-west and adds to the historic fabric of the western part of the town.
