Freestanding mausoleum in stripped Classical style, built c.1820, set within Church of Ireland graveyard. Roof comprising two single engraved ashlar limestone slabs, rear slab sitting higher, with projecting cornice course below roof slab. Ashlar limestone main elevation on bevelled stone plinth, taller lower courses. Chamfered recess with engraved stone commemorating John Henry Maudsley died 1819 to upper centre, visible outline of missing grave stone or opening below. Ashlar limestone side and rear walls, high ground embankment to rear and sloping to sides. Ashlar retaining walls flanking front elevation.
A large, understated mausoleum erected to the memory of John Henry Maudsley, who died 30 July 1819, aged 14 years. It was erected by his parents Henry and Mary Maudsley. Weather-worn inscriptions on the two large roof slabs also commemorate other members of the Maudsley family. The whole is set in an embankment that stretches across the south side of the graveyard and may be part of earlier defensive works, associated with the earlier fortification use of the site. The mausoleum is one of a number of distinctive monuments that contribute to the character of the graveyard and the setting of the Church of Ireland church.
