Terraced four-bay two-storey house with dormer attic, c.1820. Pitched slate roof, shared brick chimneystack to south gable, cast-iron rainwater goods. Ruled-and-lined rendered walls with plat band below moulded cornice, raised render quoins. Stone and concrete sills to square-headed windows with moulded render architrave, one-over-one timber sash windows. Cast-iron window guards to ground floor. Doorcase with moulded render architrave and raised cornice, four panelled bolection panelled door with glazed panel and glazed overlight. Opening directly on to street.
This house is one of the few buildings on Market Street without a shopfront, and is a reminder a time when urban living was fashionable. The carriage arch of the adjoining house to the south provided access to the rear of the pair, and demonstrates the carefully planning that was undertaken in the nineteenth century to provide vehicular access to the rear of Market Street. It was built as part of a pair which shares the same volume, window size, and openings rhythm. The openings are large and regularly spaced giving it an urbane character, which is reinforced by the use of careful render detailing.
