Freestanding cast-iron water hydrant, c.1880, comprising fluted shaft with spout to front, moulded necking with recent tap, and fluted domed cap over with acorn finial, later bucket-stand fitted to front.
A water hydrant of technical and social heritage interest, dating from the period before mains water supply when clean drinking water was provided at a communal source. It is an interesting reminder of the high quality of design and execution of mass produced ironwork in the late nineteenth century. The survival of the water hydrant in its original location contributes to the historic character of its rural setting.
