Freestanding cast-iron water pump, erected c.1880. Circular banded shaft, wider fluted head with gadrooned domed cap and spike pinnacle. Spout with raised rim and projecting bucket lip, cow tailed handle pivoted on lug projecting from one side of head. Secured on concrete slab surrounded by steel railing.
An elegant example of a mass produced cast-iron water pump that features attractive details including a curved handle, banded shaft, fluted neck and cap. It is a reminder of the time before the provision of mains water, and would have been an important focal point in the community. It is an important feature of social history in Redhills, and forms a pair eith another pump located on the Fair Green.
