Freestanding cast-iron water pump, erected c. 1890, now disused. Cylindrical horizontally-banded shaft, fluted head with circular spout, cow-tail handle and fluted ogee-domed cap. Located at the side of the road on a concrete plinth with a rubble stone wall and cast-iron cauldron to the rear.
A fine example of a late nineteenth century water pump, in a good state of repair despite being out of use. Pumps were once the only source of fresh water to rural communities. Fine casting details add technical interest to an otherwise functional artefact.
