Freestanding cast-iron water pump, erected c.1900, having banded cylindrical shaft with moulded neck, fluted cap with pointed finial, and cow's-tail handle. Set on concrete plinth on recent tarmacadam pathway, adjacent to recent rubble stone boundary wall to private dwelling.
This water pump is of interest as a reminder of a period before mains water supply was available. A communal feature, it would have been a place for local people to meet and chat. It also represents a good example of mass-produced cast-iron street furniture. The pump is intact and its detailing is typically good.
