Description

Vehicular gateway to now-demolished Lough Veagh House, erected c.1825, comprising double-leaf cast-iron gate supported on openwork cast-iron piers with square-plan plinths, flanked by short stretches of decorative railing over rendered plinth walling, further flanked by partly rendered rubble stone walls. Piers have flared sides, moulded necks, and pediment details to top containing sunburst motif.

Appraisal

An elegant gateway that once served the former Lough Veagh House and remains an attractive feature along the roadside. There is a pleasant contrast between the ornate, slender cast-iron piers and the robust stone piers.
