Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, installed c.1870, with beaded moulding surround, and splayed aperture with royal monogram of Queen Victoria. Opening with beaded moulding to information panel and lock. Set into rendered pier to front wall of former post office.
This subtle feature represents an early surviving piece of mass-produced cast-iron street furniture. The crown and the monogram of Queen Victoria serve as a reminder of the period when Ireland was part of the British empire.
