Description

Detached three-bay single-storey vernacular house, built c.1900, having recent glazed extension to rear. Pitched straw-thatched roof with mesh over, roped and pegged to stone pegs to eaves and gables, and having rendered chimneystacks to gables. Roughcast lime-rendered rubble stone walls with plinth course. Square-headed openings with painted concrete sills and replacement timber casement windows and glazed timber door.

Appraisal

A small vernacular house that has been extended in recent times, yet retains much of its original form and character. The survival of many vernacular characteristics, including small openings, low chimneys, and particularly the thatched roof, which has been thatched in accordance with the traditional regional method.
