Description

Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, installed c.1870, having round-headed moulded front panel with raised lettering 'VR' to bottom. Set in rendered front wall of house and shop.

Appraisal

This cast-iron post box is of social importance and is still in use today. The royal cipher of Queen Victoria is of interest as a reminder of Ireland's colonial history. The box is also a good example of mass-produced cast-iron ware.
