Description

Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1890, with single-storey canted bay windows to ground floor, two-storey return, and two-bay two-storey extension perpendicular to house at rear. Hipped natural slate roof with grey clayware ridge tiles, cat-slide roof to rear incorporating return, centrally placed fired red brick chimneystacks with terracotta pots, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Flat lead roofs with moulded corniced eaves to canted bay windows. Smooth rendered walls with painted block and start quoins. Square-headed window openings with moulded render surrounds to first floor, replacement uPVC windows, and painted sills. Square-headed door opening with moulded render surround, overlight and replacement timber door. Set within own grounds with wrought-iron gates mounted on smooth rendered gate piers giving access from to south of property. House is one of three out-of-town Victorian dwellings on Monaghan Road. Single-storey outbuilding with stone walls and pitched slate roof adjoins rear extension.

Appraisal

This Victorian out-of-town dwelling, standing in its own grounds, shares much of the character of other detached houses on this road. The moulded detailing adds interest and texture.
