Pitched slate roof, overhanging to gables, with red brick chimneystacks. Coursed squared snecked sandstone walls to front elevation with cut limestone plinth and quoins, over rubble sandstone base. Other walls are pebble-dashed. Square-headed window openings, front having red brick surrounds and two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows, and rear having replacement uPVC. Square-headed entrance doorway having red brick surround and timber panelled door with overlight, approached by two steps. Gateway to east comprising coursed brick and roughly dressed limestone piers with recent double-leaf metal gate.

Appraisal

This modest house is a reminder of the town's former gasworks, established in the 1870s and now gone. The careful detailing of the front elevation is evident, with the use of date-stone, limestone and red brick, and the retention of the timber panelled door and timber sash windows enhances its architectural value.
