Single-span railway bridge, dated 1953, carrying accommodation track over former Dundalk and Enniskillen Railway. Reinforced concrete carriageway, replacing earlier masonry arch, inscribed date and lettering to side of track. Face of abutments reinforced with concrete to each side. Tapered buttresses flanking former arch to each elevation, continuing around to form splayed wing walls. Random rubble walls to abutments, buttresses and parapets, concrete copings to parapets and dressed chamfered plat-band to base of parapets, Steel railings to parapets.
The Dundalk and Enniskillen Railway opened in 1855, and was taken over by the Great Northern Railway in 1953, when the carriageway of this bridge was replaced with reinforced concrete. This bridge represents the ongoing technological developments in civil engineering throughout the twentieth century. The utilitarian aspect of the bridge is achieved by minimal superfluous ornamentation and is indicative of the influence of modernism.
