Entrance gates to Church of Ireland church, erected c.1840. Comprising double-leaf wrought and cast-iron vehicular gate, flanked by square-plan ashlar limestone piers, having carved cornices and plinths. Carved and inscribed images to capitals including garland and cup motifs. Matching pedestrian gate with lower matching pier to west. Entrance flanked by rubble stone boundary walls.
Typically of demesne architecture, this site entrance shows skilled craftsmanship and careful design. One of the many notable features associated with the Dawson Grove/Dartrey House demesne, this entrance contextualises and enhances the church and graveyard and provides a sense of anticipation. The cut and carved stone piers create an imposing entrance, and make a notable feature on the roadside.
