Appraisal

A fine figurative stone memorial statue by Lawrence Campbell commemorating Seán Heuston (1891-1916) one of sixteen men executed at Kilmainham Gaol for their role in leading the 1916 Rising. It is one of several statues and memorials contained within the landscape setting of Phoenix Park, representing the work of a varied assembly of artists and sculptors. The statue was erected by the Seán Heuston Memorial Committee, with the proceeds of an open day held at Kilmainham Gaol in 1938.
