Freestanding cast-iron pillar post box, erected c.1950, with raised lettering to neck and dentillated cornice to cap.
This attractive piece of street furniture at the intersection of Gray Street and Pimlico is a good example of mass-produced cast-iron. It replaced an earlier post box, located at the east end of Gray Street at its junction with Meath Street. While manufactured without monogram or makers mark the box does include some ornamentation comprising raised lettering ‘Next Delivery’, a moulded handle and a dentillated cornice.
