Freestanding octagonal-plan tapering yellow brick chimney, built c.1940, now disused. Yellow brick English garden wall bond construction having red brick detailing, moulded concrete plinth over brick base, and moulded concrete cornice. Located in hospice grounds to south-west of main hospice building, adjacent to boiler house and laundry.
An eye catching structure, the chimney and associated boiler house were built as part of the laundry complex when the hospice underwent an expansion in the mid-twentieth century. The elegant brickwork is enlivened by the use of red brick and moulded detailing. Although now disused, the chimney retains its original form and massing, and remains an important part of the architectural heritage of the locality.
