Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2025

26 July 2024

Custodians and owners of protected structures may now apply for up to €50,000 in grant funding under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2025.  The Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) helps custodians and owners of protected structures meet their obligations in caring for Ireland’s built heritage.

Launched on the 26th July, the BHIS 2025 will be open for applications until the 27th September 2024 with successful projects to be announced in January 2025.  This will be three months earlier than the traditional announcement period of March and will give owners and craftspeople additional time to schedule and complete their projects during 2025.

The BHIS 2025 is not limited to private dwellings and gives valuable financial assistance to a wide range of heritage sites, which now include certain categories of structures which were previously encompassed by the Historic Structures Fund (HSF), a separate scheme focusing on grants of between €50,000 and €200,000 to assist larger-scale projects.  Applications for the HSF will open towards the end of 2024.

Applications for the BHIS 2025 must be made to the relevant local authority by the 27th September 2024.  Those interested in applying may direct their queries to their local Architectural Conservation Officer.
