Historic Structures Fund 2025

27 March 2025

Christopher O’Sullivan TD, Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, has announced that 28 built heritage projects are to benefit from €3.5m in funding for conservation-led repairs under the Historic Structures Fund 2025.

Alongside other heritage funding streams, including the Built Heritage Investment Scheme and the recently reopened Conservation Advice Grant Scheme, the Historic Structures Fund aims to conserve, protect and promote the use of historic structures in our cities, towns and villages and in our countryside.

The Historic Structures Fund, which operates on a match-fund basis, promotes the investment of private capital into the conservation and rehabilitation of historic structures.  In addition to the €3.5m committed today, it is estimated that grantees will invest a further €7.6m on these projects, which will support the work of traditional craftspeople while bringing 28 of our landmark buildings back to their former glory.

The projects awarded funding under the Historic Structures Fund 2025 include:

  • Saint Anne’s Church, Shandon, Cork, which has been awarded €250,000 for essential repairs to the housing and mechanisms of its iconic four-faced clock tower;
  • A warehouse behind The Mall, Ramelton, County Donegal, which has been awarded €150,000 for essential structural repairs in advance of its adaptation as three housing units;
  • Hill House, Cloghan, County Offaly, which has been awarded €85,887 for lime works and repairs to its roof which retains an important thatched timber substructure;
  • Two neighbouring properties in Church Street and Lloyd’s Lane, Athlone, County Westmeath, which have been awarded €68,780 for their rejuvenation including the provision of “living-over-the-shop” accommodation;
  • Rathaspeck Church, County Wexford, which has been awarded €100,620 for repairs to enable its eventual reuse as a centre for community and cultural use;
  • Russborough House, County Wicklow, which has been awarded €160,069 for the conservation-led restoration of the sixty-one limestone urns which decorate its roofline.
